shanonOK i want to explore more aspects of my other characters and lately i have been focusing on angel!!!!!!
ok so as i have said a bit about him but i am going to flesh it out a little more, but upon thinking of him a bit more i don't think it was entirely accurate and only surface level as there is a lot more to him
angel was raised in a very religious household, he went to catholic school (like ME lmao), he came from a very wealthy family in puerto rico until the economy kind of went to shit and they moved to FLORIDA (my land)
like i said i like to hide little aspects of myself into my characters and here is where i will somewhat project my forcefully religious upbringing onto something i suppose lmao, like he got into trouble a lot as a kid partially in an attempt to rebel against his upbringing, and for people who arent familiar with catholicism, it isn't AS extreme and fundamentalist but there is a lot of guilt tripping involved, and while he isn't religious himself at all i feel like at the back of his mind he still kind of holds that "catholic guilt syndrome" (ie: god is punishing u, and an actual mental disorder associated with OCD which is really interesting to me because it is, obviously inherited among those raised in this particular circumstance and i also find myself falling into this and i have never really explored a religious background with any of my characters considering it is such a huge part of my personal life?)
so other than trying to rebel against what was always instilled on him he is 100% just a BULLY and he always has been, even as a child and probably even more-so as he has a very large sense of entitlement due to his family's wealthy background, he comes from a large family and he was probably last of the kid's his mother had so he is THE BABY and a spoiled brat
but anyway, he projects this onto other people, i think probably without really realizing it? but he seems to view everyone around him as "scum" and lower than him, which is PROBABLY why he sought out the particular career he has, while he isn't a cop, and doesn't have much interest in becoming one, he is still in an authoritative position as a correctional officer, and he absolutely abuses the power he has in that position and this work also satisfies his sadism because he gets a thrill out of watching people hurt each other and being manipulative and being physically abusive, he purposely seeks out vulnerable and “pathetic” targets (ie. shanon lmao) because he thinks its funny to watch people perpetuate their own misery and being in control of it (another ie. blackmail and bribery, he loves to hang things over people's heads and gets a kick out of the things they will do in exchange for what they want, which is definitely what got him into dealing drugs, addicts are easy and he likes easy targets, he doesn't want a challenge he just wants someone pitiful to pick on
like, one of the notable things he's done when he first met shanon and upon noticing her having heroin withdrawals and giving her a very hard time and waiting until she was desperate enough to do anything to get her hands on it, which doesn't take very long and she ends up blowing him in exchange for drugs and he then later plants shit on her only to search her cell and kind of make a spectacle of it, he does things like this in the beginning of their "relationship" to make an example of her and remind her that he's in control and could absolutely fuck her over if he wanted to, i guess it's kind of his way of keeping her "in line" and as i said before, shanon is not someone designed for happiness and strength, anything good that ever comes into her life is fleeting and gone just as soon as it came and all she has that stays is her drugs and shitty relationships and thats kind of like why she becomes infatuated with angel because he is an awful person but he supplies all those things for her and in her very broken state she begins to romanticize it it is COMPLETELY unhealthy
BUT altho he treats shanon like garbage, angel does have quite a lot of respect for older women, he finds shanon's grandmother incredibly attractive (she is 53 yrs old) and would MAKE LOVE to her and treat her like a QUEEN if he was given the chance, he probably lets her get away with a lot of shit and hilda purposely uses shanon's "relationship" with angel as a means to have her own things she needs smuggled in, she is probably well aware of angel's attraction to her as i'm sure he's never neglected to mention it to her directly and she's not stupid, but she still takes advantage of shanon and uses her as a bridge and a means to get what she wants even though he would do it for her regardless, hilda is very, very selfish and is about personal gain and doesn't really have any regard for how people in the middle of this are treated or affected
his uncle has also had the same job for awhile, which is how i assume he got in as well, i did say before that he was already selling drugs before he got the job which i have changed, he does them, he is a coke fiend for sure lmao and i think he just brings them into prison after learning what a lucrative career smuggling is in there, so he is more of a supplier than a dealer
IDK if i think of anything else important i will probably just make another journal entry about it, i do want to do a few random thoughts on all my characters
